The FMHA “Museum Happenings” is published monthly to keep you up-to-date on Happenings at the Fort Miles Museum. This blog focuses on our fall events that take place in NOVEMBER and DECEMBER. This blog will be updated monthly (or more frequently, as needed). NOTE: Updates often appear as highlighted boxes or banners on the Home Page.

Fort Miles History
On September 13th, Dr. Gary Wray spoke at the Lewes Chautauqua. Read Dr. Wray’s talk, “Railroads and Fort Miles”.
Construction Progress – Fort Miles Museum
As noted above, the events scheduled at Battery 519 in November have been postponed until late winter. This is due to the rapid progress made to construct a new Events Venue in Battery 519 and a new visitor’s entrance road and parking area. In order to complete both projects within the next 2-4 months, contractors and FMHA Bunker Buster volunteers will need the flexibility to work in and around Battery 519 and the Fort Miles Museum and Historical Area as weather permits. As new events are announced following completion of these projects, detailed information will be available here. The FMHA Home Page features a slide show and photos regarding our construction projects.
In the meantime, visitors wishing to see Battery 519 can do so by joining a tour conducted by Delaware State Parks’ interpretative guides. These tours are scheduled as shown below.
BATTERY 519 TOURS, LANTERN TOURS AND TRUCKIN’ THROUGH HISTORY RIDES – DELAWARE STATE PARKS
Discover Battery 519 are scheduled as follows:
- November: Fridays at 1 PM, Saturday, November 10th and Saturday, November 17th at 11 AM and 2 PM
- December: Fridays at 1 PM through December 14th and Saturdays at 11 AM and 2 PM through December 15th.
Battery 519 Lantern Tours are scheduled as follows:
- November: Saturday, November 17th at 5:30 PM
These tours form at the Fort Miles Museum Orientation Building and are limited to 30 visitors. Call to register (302-644-5007). $5 per person, including adults.
Truckin’ Through History – Tour Cape Henlopen State Park on an historic troop transport.
- November: Saturday, November 3rd at 2 PM
Truckin’ Through History ride tickets ($8 per person) can be purchased at the Museum Orientation Building on Saturday mornings (starting at 10 AM) on a first come, first served basis. Maximum of 4 tickets per group and a 12 person limit per ride. These rides leave from the Parks’ campground office.
WORLD WAR I EXHIBITION
Delaware State Parks will host a traveling exhibition featuring the history of World War I and artifacts from The Great War. This free exhibition will be housed inside Battery 519 opening December 3rd and closing December 8th. The full schedule of events, including lectures and films, will be available soon on the Delaware State Parks website.
