The History Book Festival and the Fort Miles Historical Association will join forces on June 9 to commemorate the 75th Anniversary of D-Day with a presentation and discussion of “D-Day Girls” with author Sarah Rose.

The event, at the Fort Miles Museum in Cape Henlopen State Park in Lewes, begins at 2 PM. The program is free, but park and museum entry fees apply.

“D-Day Girls” tells the stories of the extraordinary women recruited by Britain’s elite spy agency to help pave the way for the D-Day invasion and ultimate Allied victory in World War II. Using historical research from contemporary periodicals, archives and interview records, Rose presents intensely personal portraits of several of the women who risked their lives to serve in Britain’s Special Operations Executive agency.

Publishers Weekly describes the book as “Gripping history … thoroughly researched and written as smoothly as a good thriller, this is a mesmerizing story of creativity, perseverance, and astonishing heroism.”

Sarah Rose is the author of “For All the Tea in China: How England Stole the World’s Favorite Drink and Changed History.” She was a columnist for The Wall Street Journaland has written for Outside, Travel + Leisure, Bon Appétitand Men’s Journal. In 2014, she was awarded a Lowell Thomas Prize for travel writing.

“We are honored to collaborate with Fort Miles to have Sarah Rose discuss her book 75 years after D-Day, one of the largest military assaults in history,” said History Book Festival Co-Chair Jen Mason. “This program is an excellent opportunity for readers of all ages to learn about an event that literally changed the course of history.”
