Post War Continental Defense and Early Warning Radar
The presentation will cover the development and operation of the Navy sound surveillance system from the 1950’s through the 80’s, originally designed to track Soviet submarines off the coast of the U.S.. Fort Miles (NAVFAC Lewes) was the home for one of the SOSUS tracking stations.

About the Speaker:
Navy Capt. (Ret) Bill Manthorpe is a retired Navy Captain and government civilian Senior Executive. He retired in 1994 as the Deputy Director of Naval Intelligence, having served 40 years as an intelligence professional. Bill has been researching, writing and speaking on the naval and maritime history of Delaware.
