Fort Miles Historical Association Announces the Retirement of Dr. Gary Wray as President; Appoints New Interim Co-Presidents

Fort Miles Historical Association (“FMHA”) has announced the retirement of Dr Gary D. Wray, President. Dr. Wray was one of the four founders of FMHA in 2003 and served as the organization’s President since that time. During his 17 year tenure, Dr Wray’s extraordinary vision and dedication guided the significant growth of FMHA and the formation of the Fort Miles Museum in 2016.

Dr Wray issued the following statement:

“After seventeen years I have decided to retire as the President of the Fort Miles Historical Association.

From co-founding FMHA with Bob Frederick, David Main and Lee Jennings in August 2003 until December 19, 2020 I have led the organization. We have grown from four members to almost 400 over the last seventeen years  and we have established a well respected reputation in the local and regional community.

All good things must come to an end. I will continue as a member of FMHA and will continue to work to further the goals of the organization and to improve the Fort Miles Museum.

I would like to thank everyone who has supported FMHA over the last seventeen years.”

On January 9, 2021, FMHA held a special meeting of its Board of Directors, which elected co-founder and Vice President Bob Frederick and Jeff DiBella, fellow Board member and co-manager of the FMHA “Bunker Busters,” as interim Co-Presidents, each serving a one year term. Bob Frederick stated “We will miss the leadership and drive of my co-founder, Gary Wray, who will continue to provide advice and counsel to FMHA.” Jeff DiBella said, “I am honored to serve as interim co-President and look forward to continuing the development of the Fort Miles Museum in partnership with Delaware State Parks.”

Subsequently, Dr Wray offered his continuing support for, and planned personal involvement in, the numerous projects underway at Fort Miles Museum as well as FMHA events and activities.  Our thanks!
