The FMHA “Museum Happenings” is published monthly and more frequently as needed to keep you up-to-date on events at the Fort Miles Museum. This update is as of April 22, 2020.

Delaware Defense Day – Postponed!

The annual Fort Miles Museum open house, Delaware Defense Day, scheduled for April 25th been postponed. As this event typically attracts 1,500 – 2,000 visitors to the Fort Miles Museum and Historical Area, a total “all clear” for COVID-19 will have to occur prior to rescheduling this event for later in 2020. If this year’s event cannot be rescheduled, the next Delaware Defense Day will take place on April 24, 2021.

FMHA Remains Active

Thanks to our partners at Delaware State Parks and artist Paul Rendel, FMHA recently acquired an historic artifact and a new original painting. We think you will find both of these stories to be interesting reading.

Delaware State Parks Battery 519 Tours and Lantern Tours of Fort Miles

Throughout the year, visitors to Cape Henlopen State Park and Fort Miles wishing to see Battery 519 can do so by joining scheduled tours conducted by Delaware State Parks’ interpretative guides. At present, however, these tours are suspended indefinitely until the Fort Miles Museum can safely be reopened to the public.

Other Events and Programs at Cape Henlopen State Park

Nature walks, bird walks, a scavenger hunt and many more events are typically offered at Cape Henlopen State Park during the Spring months. While the Park remains open for exercising and allows visitors to walk through the outdoor exhibits at Fort Miles, no events or programs can be scheduled until regulations and guidelines issued by the State of Delaware are amended to permit other activities.
