The FMHA “Museum Happenings” is published monthly and more frequently as needed to keep you up-to-date on events at the Fort Miles Museum. This update is as of September 29th and covers the period October 1st – November 30th.
Fort Miles Battery 519 Museum Tours
Fort Miles Museum is open daily 10:00 am – 4:00 pm Wednesday – Saturday through October 31st, with the same hours in effect on Friday and Saturday only from November 1st – December 19th.
Guided tours of Battery 519 are conducted by Delaware State Parks’ historic interpreters. Through October 31st tours are available Wednesday – Saturday at 11:00 am and 2:00 pm.
Starting November 1st and continuing through December 19th, tours are scheduled on Fridays and Saturdays also at 11:00 am and 2:00 pm.
A $5/person tour charge in is effect (children 7 and under excepted). These are group tours limited to 15 visitors per tour. Advance reservations are required and can be made by calling 302-644-5007.
The Museum is subject to compliance with Delaware safety regulations, including the requirement that face masks be worn inside the Museum/Battery 519.

Lantern Tours: Saturdays: October 24th at 6:30 pm, November 14th at 5:30 pm and December 12th at 5:30pm.
Explore Fort Miles by lantern light and discover U-boats on the prowl, sailors in distress and a unique look into what life was like for soldiers stationed at Fort Miles during World War II. There is a 15-person limit and advance reservations are required by calling 302-644-5007. These tours are for ages 10 and older with a paying adult. The tour fee is $5 per person.
Naval Shores Bike Tour: Friday, October 2nd, 9:30 am.
Join William Manthorpe, a retired Navy Captain and former Deputy Director of Naval Intelligence, as he guides you through the Navy’s century of service at Cape Henlopen State Park. You must bring your own bike. Tours meet at the Fishing Pier pavilion and are for ages 10 and over with an adult. Reservations are required – please call 302-644-5007. The tour is free with paid park admission fee.
Artillery Park Walk: October 7th, 14th, 21st and 28th, all at 1:00 pm.
Delaware State Park historic interpreters walk you through the Fort Miles Museum Artillery Park. Learn about the wide variety of artillery pieces that helped protect the entrance of the Delaware Bay. Tours meet at the Museum’s Orientation Building and are for ages 7 and up with an adult. Limit 15. Please call 302-644-5007 to pre-register. Free with paid park entrance fee.
Fort Miles History Hunt: You Choose Date and Time
This is a self -guided tour. Go to the historic site’s Facebook page, grab the list of clues and head out. As you untangle the clues, the history of defense at Cape Henlopen will be revealed. Recommended for ages 10 and up – no fee.
Truckin’ Through History: Please Make An Appointment
Take a ride on an historic World War II troop carrying truck on a tour through the park that provides a look at some of the lesser known structures at Fort Miles. Tours meet at the Biden Center and are for ages 7 and up. Limit of 8 per ride. Please call 302-644-5007 to schedule. The fee is $80.
