Where: Fort Miles Museum and Historical Area, Cape Henlopen State Park

What: Many planned events will take place during this full day event (10  AM – 4PM), including the firing of a 3-inch artillery gun and a re-enactment of the German U-Boat 858 surrender ceremony, which took place in 1945 at Fort Miles. Sketching and painting opportunities will include these planned events, World War II vehicles and artillery pieces, musical performers in period dress and costumes, as well as the many newly updated displays and exhibits that comprise the Fort Miles Museum.

Format: Artists may enter the Sketching and Plein Air Painting Contest (free of charge) to compete for a “top 3” award as judged by noted local artists Paul Rendel and Abraxas. One to five entries per artist may be submitted up to 2 weeks following the Open House and will be hung in the Fort Miles Museum Visiting Artists Gallery. Following completion of the contest, winning artists may leave sketches on display to be offered for sale at the Gallery throughout the summer.

Registration: Artists wishing to submit sketches for the contest must register prior to April 25th. Registration and contest rules available here.
