On July 1st, the entrants in the First Annual FMHA Sketching Event gathered in the Battery 519 Visiting Artists Gallery to receive recognition for sketches produced at the annual Fort Miles Museum “Delaware Goes to War” open house held on April 28th.
Dr Gary Wray, President of FMHA, kicked off the event with a tour of Battery 519.
Here Gary explains the operation on an artillery plotting board.
Judge and Lewes based artist, Paul Rendel, awarded plaques for the top three sketches. Artists Steve Burke, Rick Cross and Scott Roberts each received an award for one of their sketches.
The winning sketches and a number of additional sketches submitted during and after the open house are now on display in the Gallery. These include sketches produced by professional artists Paul Rendel and Joanne Guilfoil. These works will remain on display throughout the summer months. Many of these sketches are also available for purchase.
