Join Fort Miles Historical Association and Delaware State Parks for a ceremony honoring the Delaware service members who lost their lives during World War II and commemorating the end of the war. Japan formally surrendered aboard the USS Missouri on September 2, 1945, restoring peace after nearly six years of global conflict. This year also marks the 10th anniversary of the dedication of Fort Miles’ USS Missouri gun display, featuring a historic 16-inch/50-caliber gun from the battleship.

Fort Miles served as a vital coastal defense installation protecting Delaware Bay and the Atlantic coast during World War II. Today, the restored site preserves the stories of the people who served and Delaware’s role in the Allied victory.

The public is invited to attend this meaningful ceremony of remembrance, gratitude and historical reflection.
